To Spot an On-Line Scam,

While the internet can be a great place to shop or look for temporary transient housing, learn new things, and connect with friends, it's also a scammer's paradise. Unfortunately, once a scam is uncovered, others step in to take its place.

To spot an online scam, be vigilant in evaluating all the offers you see and not trusting the people you interact with online.

A little critical thinking.

There are hundreds of variations of the scam, but all aim is to trick you into giving away as much money as possible.

If you see an offer online, really take some time to think about it. A little critical thinking can often save you money and frustration.

Rely not on the links or testimonials attached to the offer itself. Look elsewhere for independent verification that the offered items are valid.

Research - make your Home-work first

Research the background of the company or website. If a business is legitimate, you'll be able to find information about it online.

Any business operating above the board with an internet offer will also have a digital footprint.

Do a general Google search to get information about the company or website, including its location and reputation.

Here is how it works: use any search engine and enter the company name or the name of the transient owner via Google Maps or images, click on the respective image, and the description reveals the result

Be cautious with people you only know online.

It's not just fake businesses that try to scam people online.

Individuals also try to form connections with others and then scam you out of money, gifts, and attention.

Be wary of a relationship that develops extremely fast or a person who claims to have strong feelings for you but isn't available to talk on the phone or video chat.

They may be trying to scam you

Reservation Deposit payable via first class Philipine Bank.

Deposit payable through first class Philippine bank. From everything, I've seen scammers ask for a 50% to 75% deposit on reservation deposit, which is already a red flag.

Legitimate transient establishments that charge a lot less.

Reservation deposits are required by bank transfer using only Philippine-accredited banks.

If the business provider gives you another institution to transfer the reservation deposit, that is another red flag.

Here you can check with your bank whether the business owner exists.

The Advise of the Old Wise Man:

In my blog, I always describe the pros and cons. I will never decide unilaterally.
I intend to advise you on this subject and encourage you to do your homework before posting stories on the internet. In addition, I gave you an exercise - An example of how to spot scammers in transient business.

Complete privacy exists only in the desert of this world, and anyone who is not a hermit must anticipate and endure the ordinary events of the community life of which he is a part. He must therefore expect his neighbors to be more or less casually observing what he is doing and his comings and goings and ordinary daily activities as described in the press as a matter of casual interest to others.

The common sense person does not take offense to a report in a newspaper that he has returned from a visit, gone camping in the woods, or thrown a party at his house for his friends. Even minor and moderate nuisance, such as publicly disclosing facts that the plaintiff fell awkwardly down the stairs and broke his ankle, is not sufficient to give him cause of action under the rule outlined in this section. Only if the publicity it has received is such that a reasonable person would feel justified in feeling seriously disadvantaged by it will there be a cause of action.
